NBC in '43: No women announcers

Is that really what we heard? (NBC chimes)

I don't know about you -  but I never once thought the NBC chimes were done live on the air by announcers. Maybe I am wrong but here's Ken Carpenter, noted announcer, with a small vibraphone of some sort - and I would bet you he's either just done the NBC chime or is about to.
