Publicty stunt

You may recall this article I posted a while back where Judy Canova talked about a supposed romance between Edgar Bergen and herself that was broken up because of Bergen loved Charlie McCarthy more than her (or...something like that.)

I found this from 1937 where the paper states that Canova broke a show engagement with Bergen because of "playing second fiddle to a dummy."

All in all, it seems pretty silly now and how niave are you if you believed this hooey; however, I imagine in 1937 people were subject to believe in almost anything (War of the Worlds, etc.)
