Is Peavy patterened after the Rexall spokesman?

The other day I was listening to The Great Gildersleeve program and I heard Peavy, the drugstore proprietor.  I then recalled the hundreds of Rexall commercials I have heard and I realized how much the Rexall spokeman and Peavy sound alike.  Surely this isn't a coincidence!

Phil Harris/Alice Faye - non-Rexall

I had no idea Phil Harris/Alice Faye worked together for anyone but Rexall; all the episodes I have listened to have Rexall as the sponsor.

But after looking it up, sure enough, the show used to be called, The Fitch Bandwagon.

I had heard of The Fitch Bandwagon but in no way associated it with Phil and Alice.
