Don't shoot your eyes out, kids...

You'll shoot your eye out, kid...
I always have loved the film, "A Christmas Story."  Set in the 1930's, at least one scene is centered around the Little Orphan Annie radio serial.

The kid in the film wants a Red Ryder BB Gun.  I would imagine this may have been advertised in the paper... and how about the old Red Ryder comic strip?:

There was a Red Ryder radio serial in 1942-51 as well. Arthur Q. Bryan ("Doc Gamble" on Fibber McGee and Molly) even played in the series (I wonder if he did his Elmer Fudd Voice?)

  1. Reed Hadley (TV's Racket Squad) played Red Ryder and Tommy Cook played Little Beaver. Cook was also Little Beaver in the Republic serial. If you recall from the movie, Ralphie inserts a Red Ryder ad flier in the pages of his mother's magazine. Jean Shepherd mentions this also in his original story. Ads for the Red Ryder B-B gun were on the backs of comic books. They were probably the most popular along with the Charles Atlas muscle building kits and the Johson and Smith Catalogues.
