Visual example of low-quality sound in OTR

I have found that about 15% of all OTR files of shows made before the 1950's tend to look like the top picture I've posted below.

The amplification process (bottom photo) really doesn't help much.  With most files, there is really not much you can do.

The amplification on this mp3 (Jimmy Durante) is only about 10% of what it should be

While the sound isn't what it should be, I amplified it more than 560%
