Hooper rating by city, 1947

I came across this while trying to finish the 1947 Billboard Reviews.

These results are fascinating.  If you look them over carefully, you can tell a lot about each city, in my opinion...

  1. The Hooper ratings of course determined the popularity of a performer. These were examined by the sponsors of the different shows to determine whether or not to renew that program's contract for the next year. Notice that Fred Allen ranks highest on the poll that was taken in Boston. Probably because he was originally from that city, however he did make some snide comments about the city due to his early childhood. Bob Hope seemed to always rank above his buddy, Bing Crosby. Once on a broadcast, Bing was kidding Bob about how much time he spent in the woods looking for his golf ball. Bob replied, "I was looking for your Hooper rating."
