I remember listening to Charlie as a kid and really enjoyed him. To me he was very close to being 'real.' He was so funny and could get the best of Edgar. There were a lot of creepy puppets on old time radio. They were on Suspense and Escape. Really scary ones. I think there were some on those scifi shows as well.
I think you will be seeing Charlie McCarthy in your sleep. A living one!
