Fred Allen meets Rochester (racial slur?)

In 1938, during the famous Fred Allen-Jack Benny "feud", Allen got the chance to meet Rochester, Benny's butler. It really sounds to me as if he racially insults him by calling him a "nougatine Jeeves." What do you think?

  1. Not sure what it means. I guess I would let it run of my sleeve.

  2. Interesting. I would say it would not have been politically correct. I wonder how it went over back then. Rochester is one of my favorite characters. Also enjoyed him in the old Topper movies.
